Albion Stone is committed to increasing our energy efficiency and investing in clean, energy
efficient technologies, thereby reducing our consumption of energy.
The company has been working with the Carbon Trust who have completed an Opportunity
Assessment Survey of our operation. This survey highlights areas where we can reduce our energy.
consumption which in 2007 was just over 2.5 million kWh. This relates to a carbon footprint of
836 tonnes of carbon dioxide. Our initial target is to bring the figure down to less than 800
tonnes.

The Stone carbon footprint compares very well to other building materials. The University of
Bath has completed extensive surveys comparing the carbon footprints of construction materials,
their sustainable Energy Research Team are hoping to secure further funding and with the
assistance of the Stone Federation, to expand on this initial document. The current version
shows that Natural Stone has a 90% smaller carbon footprint than facing bricks and a 75% smaller
carbon footprint than prefabricated concrete. This document can be downloaded from
