Albion Stone were asked to provide Stone for the entrances, facade, cladding and displays for Debenhams, located in 'Fields', Scandinavia's biggest shopping and entertainment centre in Ørestad, Denmark.
The project consisted of 200m2 of Portland Bowers Basebed, honed cladding.
The stone was used on the entrances, and shop frontage within the shopping centre signage.
As well as the stack bonded entrance surround, the Portland Bowers Basebed was used to create a feature display wall with integrated illuminated display units.
The close grain of the Basebed is particularly suitable for fine detailing and in this instance, has been used to carve the Debenhams name.
Frihavnens purchased the stone in dimensioned block format and shipped the stones to Italy to have them cut into ultra thin panels. These panels were adhered to an aluminium honeycombe structure to provide additional strength to the thin stones. The advantage of this system is that it reduces the weight of the cladding by up to 80%, which was an important consideration on this project.
