The project based in the London Borough of Westminster, comprises the internal and external alternations to 74 St James Street and the complete demolition of 14/15 Little St James Street to provide both residential and office space spread over 6 storeys.
Michael Squire and Partners specified Portland Stone for the cladding element of the project for its aesthetics and durability, although the bed choice was still be too decided.
With this in mind the Project Team visited Albion's works at Portland to view the Quarries, Factory and view available Portland beds.
Bowers Whitbed was selected for its characteristics, such as aesthetics and durability, and following the issue of an exacting specification a pre-purchase of block was agreed.
Albion Stone supplied approximately 800 cubic metres of Bowers Whitbed block, the production programme commenced in spring 2002. During the fixing process cleaner stones were used for window dressings, string-courses and cills and the shellier stone for ashlar panels.

The design and use of Bowers Whitbed compliments the differing architectural styles of the facades, creating a unity between the classic rusticated ashlar panels and the contemporary modern lines adding to the overall design of the building.
The project was completed in Spring 2003. Shortly after the completion of the project HSBC took up residence.
