Private Villa

Nuzha, Kuwait

  • Architect: Darr Architects
  • Contractor: First United (General trading & Contracting Co WWL)
  • Material: Portland Bowers Basebed

Albion Stone were contacted by Darr Architects of London to submit Portland Stone for a High Ranking Official's private residence in Kuwait. Alternative materials were also submitted from Turkey and Portugal however these were rejected by the Architect in favour of Portland Stone, due to its known durability.

After discussions with the Architect and a review of Technical Data, it was decided that Albion's Bowers Basebed would be the most suitable material for the Project.

The Architect then visited the Quarry with the Kuwaiti Contractor to view the Quarry Control Samples and the production processes. A subsequent order was placed for 2,000 square metres of cladding and features.

The Architect and client felt the cool white/grey colour of the stone and pleasing aesthetic qualities would enhance the serenity of the property in the oppressive heat as well as providing individual character to the building.

Exportation of specific sized Bowers Basebed slabs commenced in August 1998. The final stone was sent in November 1998 and the Project was completed early 1999.
