St. Pauls Cathedral
London, EC4

Architect: Sir Christopher Wren
Masonry Contractor: Stonewest (Cleaning & Repair work)
Material: Bowers Basebed & Independent Basebed

St Paul's Cathedral is Sir Christopher Wren's masterpiece, built in glowing Portland Stone, crowned by the magnificent dome, a famous landmark on the skyline of the City of London situated at the top of Ludgate Hill, in the City of London. The wide flight of steps leads to the superb west façade, a double storey portico and the two Baroque towers.

TA Cathedral dedicated to St Paul has overlooked the City of London since 604AD.

The current Cathedral – the fourth to occupy this site – was designed by the court architect Sir Christopher Wren and built between 1675 and 1710 after its predecessor was destroyed in the Great Fire of London. Its architectural and artistic importance reflect the determination of the five monarchs who oversaw its building that London’s leading church should be as beautiful and imposing as their private palaces.

It is a heritage site of international importance which attracts thousands of people each year.

With its splendid dome, soaring arches and intricate carving, Wren had created an icon for the nation
As the 300th anniversary of the completion of St Paul’s approaches, the Cathedral has embarked on an historic £40 million restoration campaign to mark the anniversary and to prepare the Cathedral for its next three hundred years. This programme will see St Paul’s repaired and cleaned inside and out, with greatly improved provision for those with disabilities and an enhanced visitor experience through the provision of new exhibition and interpretation galleries.

St Paul’s Cathedral got Commended for the Repair and Restoration at the 2006 Natural Stone Awards in London. The Judge said, “This enhancement to St Paul’s Cathedral combines aesthetic, academic and intellectual rigor to reveal the original glorious vision in the face of a determination to overcome the labyrinth of bureaucracy”
