Description
Shell Content
Typical Clean Whitbed - Predominantly grey shell fragments. The shells are often large thin clam shells up to 100mm long, parallel to the bedding.
Shell Distribution
The smaller shells tend to be evenly distributed across the stone, however the bigger shells are often found in broad bands running horizontally across the stone.
Texture
The shellier band often contains some small voids around the shells, otherwise the texture ranges from fine to very tight randomly across the stone.
Colour
Typical Portland colour, creamy/white, although the texture changes sometimes give the impression of a slightly mottled appearance.
